Katherine turns 1! Smash Cake Session
I am so happy to be able to see Katherine grow. I first met her parents for their wedding and Katherine came soon after, whom I’ve been photographing since she was born! I hope to continue to be able to capture her milestones, this is what we got from her smash cake session taken at her home.
Me encanta ver a Katherine crecer. Conoci por primera vez a sus padres cuando los fotografíe para su boda, y pronto Katherine llego a sus vidas, a quien he estado fotografiando desde que nació. Espero poder seguir capturando sus momentos de crecimiento; estas fotos fueron las que pudimos lograr en la sesión que le hice en su casa.
Tips for making a toddler photo session a success:
- Plan outfits
- Don’t stress about getting a perfect pose, they will do better with candid shots.
- Prepare to do silly dances, noises, and wait on them.
- Bring small snacks
Consejos para una sesión de fotos de tu nena exitosa:
1. Planea la vestimenta
2. No te estreses si tu nena o nene no posa para las fotos, las fotos igual salen, pero de una manera mas natural.
3. Preparate para bailar, hacer ruidos chistosos, y para darles su espacio.
4. Trae algun refrigerio/botana para que coma durante la sesión.

In the photo above, Kathy’s father was able to help me make her smile by doing push ups while jumping from side to side, definitely a big effort to make her daughter smile!
En esta foto me ayudo su papa de Kathy, quien estuvo haciendo unas lagartijas donde saltaba de un lado a otro, definitivamente, un gran esfuerzo para hacer a su hija sonreír!
This is definitely a candid shot, since Kathy was playing with her teddy bear. As part of a toddler’s session, you’ll never miss those candid shots that resemble their personality.
Kathy jugando con su oso de peluche mientras le tomaba fotos, lo cual encuentro, muestra su personalidad de todos los días.
No le gusto para nada que la pusiéramos en la canasta!
We told her she could get out of the basket and she felt excited when she felt empowered, dad once again, was able to push her out of her frustration, thanks dad!
Le dijimos que se podia salir de la canasta y al escuchar esto se puso de pie, y ya una vez paradita, su papa la hizo sonreír de nuevo, gracias papa!
As we went inside her house for more props, I captured her trying to open the door. I find this shot priceless.
Mientras nosotros buscábamos mas utileria para las fotos, Katherine estaba tratando de abrir la puerta, un momento que no tiene precio.
It was time for her smash cake session time! We let her dig in with both hands, and that really made her happy as you can witness from the portraits.
For the smash cake session, do not worry about your child getting dirty, the whole point is to let them do something they can experience with all their senses.

Katherine offering some cake, and at this time you can tell why we leave the smash cake session for last. Be prepared with cleaning cloths, or wet wipes in case you have to travel. In this case, the convenience of doing this smash cake session at their home was a service they could not pass up!
