Maricela| by Viva La Marx Photography in Houston

We went with Marisela to downtown Houston, to this place called Last Concert Cafe, a Tex Mex Restaurant, to get some shots of their most recent Frida Khalo Mural. We did this photo session for fun. I’ve always said you can do photo sessions for the fun of it, to document a time in your life or simply your youth, why not? In this case, Maricela likes Frida Khalo and we went to get some shots by the mural, keeping Maricela as the point of focus, and not the mural.

We shot other areas around the mural as well, just to get that urban feel. I’m starting with one of the last shots because the model always warms up to you towards the end of a shoot and that is why I consider it important to do more personal contact before the  photo shoot, even if it’s through Skype or FaceTime or over the phone. The last of this post is one of the first shots; you be the judge.Marisela-1-11

That golden hour look, with the sun on Maricela's skin. I love how you can see the lens's glare on this one!

For this shot, I asked Marisela to losen up her hair, to make it look a bit daring

I love the warmth of this photo, it brings out the colors in the shot without even using the "vibrant brush. " Maricela looks flawless.

For this shot, we skipped the traditional smiling shot and went for something with more attitude.

Not that she cannot smile! I kept telling Marisela to keep moving, as in changing her poses, posing naturally and comfortably.

I love how in this shot, her hair looks different, her head slightly tilted, gives Maricela a different look.

I have a thing for tin, so we went for this shot

I have a thing for tin, so we went for this shot. I think it’s important to do photos near things you like or inspire you, even if that comes from my model’s end. We want to transmit your personality, not only through your body language, but things or props too.

I really like Marisela's profile

I really like Marisela’s profile along with her hair. We left the watch on the stairs as a prop; just kidding, she took it off so she would not have it on her hand but it still made it to her picture, oops!

Here, I had to coach Maricela on placing her legs, hands, and to sit near the edge of the step, to get this look, so besides keeping in mind your camera settings, you have to keep in mind posing your model.
